Our Programs

The Community Grants & Philanthropy program is how we directly invest in the social fabric of Knokke-Heist and the surrounding Belgian coast region. Since 2013, we have provided financial support to local organizations, community groups, and individuals who share our vision of a stronger, more connected, and more equitable community.

Our grants are awarded through a structured application process that evaluates proposals based on their alignment with our mission, their potential impact, the feasibility of the proposed activities, and the applicant's capacity to deliver results. We prioritize projects that address community needs in the areas of education, social welfare, cultural enrichment, and environmental stewardship.

Over the past decade, we have distributed more than EUR 850,000 in grants to organizations ranging from small grassroots initiatives to established community institutions. Our grant recipients have used these funds to support youth education programs, provide meals and shelter for vulnerable populations, organize cultural festivals and events, and implement environmental conservation projects along the coast.

In addition to direct financial support, we also offer capacity-building assistance to our grant recipients, helping them develop sustainable funding strategies, improve their organizational governance, and measure the impact of their work. This holistic approach ensures that our grants create lasting change rather than providing temporary relief.

We accept grant applications on a rolling basis, with review committees meeting quarterly to evaluate new proposals. All grant decisions are documented and reported in our annual transparency reports, ensuring full accountability for how donor funds are allocated and used.

Our Cultural Education & Awareness program, established in 2022, is the newest addition to L&G Foundation's portfolio of initiatives. This program was created in response to growing demand from the community for accessible, engaging educational opportunities that celebrate the rich cultural history of the Knokke-Heist region and inspire a deeper appreciation for heritage and the arts.

Through this program, we organize a diverse range of educational activities, including heritage walks through historic neighborhoods, lectures by local historians and architects, workshops on traditional crafts and building techniques, and cultural festivals that bring the community together to celebrate our shared identity. Each year, we aim to reach at least 300 participants through our educational programming.

We place particular emphasis on youth engagement, developing age-appropriate educational materials and activities that introduce children and teenagers to the history and heritage of their community. Our school partnership program provides teachers with resources and support to integrate heritage education into their curricula, and we regularly host school groups for guided heritage walks and interactive workshops.

We also work to raise awareness of heritage preservation issues among the general public, using our cultural events and educational programs as platforms to advocate for thoughtful development practices and respect for the architectural and natural heritage of our region. By fostering a culture of appreciation and awareness, we aim to build a community that values and protects its heritage for generations to come.

All of our educational programs are offered free of charge or at minimal cost to participants, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent anyone from engaging with their cultural heritage. We fund these activities through a combination of grants, donations, and support from our community partners.
